Postdoctoral Research Associate in Topological Data Analysis

Location: Andrew Wiles Building, Radcliffe Observatory Quarter, Woodstock Road, Oxford, OX2 6GG

We invite applications for up to two Postdoctoral Research Associates to work with Professors Ulrike Tillmann, Vidit Nanda and Heather Harrington on an exciting project in applied topology for data science with links to geometry and systems biology. These are full-time, fixed-term positions for 24 months funded by a Centre-to-Centre research grant from the EPSRC. The start-date for these positions are flexible, but September – October 2026 is preferred.

The successful candidates will be members of the Centre for Topological Data Analysis with responsibility for carrying out research in applied/computational topology or algebra for biological systems and assist in organising activities relevant to this group. They will write up their results for publication, present papers at conferences and contribute ideas for new research projects, whilst also managing their own academic research and administrative activities. They will also be involved in student projects and/or outreach activities.

Candidates will need to have a completed doctorate or a completed doctoral dissertation submitted for examination at least 4 months before the expected start date for this position, in applied/computational topology, applied/computational algebraic geometry, data science/networks or a related discipline, and possess sufficient specialist knowledge in applied topology and/or algebra, random topology, algebraic statistics, machine learning, and/or computational biology to be able to work within established research programmes. They will have excellent communication skills, including the ability to write for publication, present research proposals and results, and represent the research group at meetings, alongside the ability to manage their own academic research and associated activities.
