Postdoctoral Research Associate-Manufacturing Engineering

Job Summary

The LANDTIE Research Lab at Georgia Southern University is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Fellow to contribute to cutting-edge research in advanced nondestructive evaluation (NDE), manufacturing methodologies, and material characterization. The successful candidate will work on federally funded projects (NIST, NSF, DOT) involving the integration of AI, robotics, and data science into experimental and theoretical NDE and smart manufacturing systems. Responsibilities include conducting independent research, publishing results, mentoring students, and contributing to interdisciplinary collaborations in advanced sensing and materials testing.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct original research in advanced nondestructive evaluation (NDE), structural health monitoring, and smart manufacturing systems
  • Design and execute experiments involving ultrasonic, electromagnetic, and other material testing techniques
  • Develop and apply computational models (e.g., finite element or wave propagation simulations) for defect detection and materials analysis
  • Integrate AI, machine learning, and robotics into NDE and manufacturing processes for automation and data-driven insights
  • Analyze experimental and simulation data to derive performance metrics and improve system design
  • Write and publish peer-reviewed papers, technical reports, and project deliverables for sponsors including NIST, NSF, and DOT
  • Mentor graduate and undergraduate students, supporting their contributions to collaborative research tasks
  • Present research findings at national and international conferences, workshops, and internal program review meetings
