With about 15,000 students, more than 300 professorships and around 160 degree programs, the RPTU University Kaiserslautern-Landau is the technical university of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate. As a place of top international research, it offers excellent working conditions and career opportunities. Those who study, research or work at RPTU experience a cosmopolitan environment and shape the future.
With the “Gulliver” Tomography Portal — funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) under the initiative “Computed Tomography for Investigating Load-Bearing Components under Increasing Loads” — a globally unique research facility is starting its scientific trial operation (https://rptu.de/projekte/gulliver). As part of establishing this innovative research area, a Postdoctoral Research Position (m/f/d) is available at the Institute of Concrete Structures and Structural Design (Professorship for Structural Design and Precast Construction).
The Gulliver Tomography Portal enables, for the first time, high-resolution three-dimensional non-destructive testing and analysis of load-bearing structural components under realistic stress and loading conditions, opening up brand-new research avenues in engineering and materials science. This position offers outstanding opportunities for building your scientific profile and developing an independent research trajectory. We offer a unique chance to shape and scientifically lead a novel research domain at the intersection of engineering sciences, computed tomography, image processing, and data-driven research.

- Collaboration in the scientific commissioning and operation of the Gulliver Tomography Portal
- Integration into advanced methods of image processing, computer vision, and quantitative 3D image analysis
- Independent execution and acquisition of research projects
- Development of new interdisciplinary research initiatives in engineering as well as across traditional discipline boundaries (e.g., mathematics, physics, materials science)
- Transdisciplinary cooperation with academic and industry partners, as well as participation in the RPTU CT-Lab (https://rptu.de/projekte/mso/ct-lab)
- Opportunity to establish and lead a dedicated research group in a related subject area
- Participation in academic teaching and university self-governance
Your requirements profile:
- A relevant, successfully completed university degree (Master's or equivalent)
- This position is open to researchers in Engineering Sciences, Natural Sciences (e.g., Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Materials Science), or related fields
- Applicants must hold a Ph.D. / Doctorate degree or be close to completing their doctorate
- Experience in computed tomography, non-destructive testing (NDT), computer vision, or image processing is desirable, but not strictly required
- Strong commitment, an independent and reliable work style, and a willingness to engage in international and interdisciplinary collaboration are required
We offer:
- Health promotion
- Family Service Center
- Vocational Training
