Postdoctoral Research Associate Positions in Structural Biology and Biophysics

Weill Cornell Medical College of Cornell University, a leading institution in the heart of New York City, is seeking outstanding and motivated Postdoctoral Fellows to conduct cutting-edge research in the structural biology of membrane proteins or single-molecule biophysics. These positions offer an exceptional opportunity to work at a world-class institution and make significant contributions to groundbreaking research.

Position 1: Structural Biology

Project Focus: Investigating the structural biology of transmembrane receptors and signaling complexes, with an emphasis on G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) and single-pass transmembrane receptors.

Key Qualifications:

  • Extensive experience in cryo-EM structural studies of membrane proteins
  • Solid background in protein biochemistry and molecular biology
  • Strong interest in utilizing state-of-the-art equipment and collaborating with leading experts

Position 2: Single-Molecule Biophysics

Project Focus: Applying single-molecule biophysical techniques to observe individual transmembrane receptors as they move and flex, illuminating the forces and motions that drive cross-membrane signaling.

Key Qualifications:

  • Proven expertise in single-molecule methodologies, including fluorescence-based detection and force-based manipulation
  • Demonstrated proficiency in experimental design and data analysis related to single-molecule studies

Application Process

To apply, please submit a comprehensive application package consisting of a cover letter, curriculum vitae, and the names of three references. Direct your application to Prof. Huang, and email it to xyhuang@med.cornell.edu. For further information on Prof. Huang's research, please visit http://vivo.med.cornell.edu/display/cwid-xyhuang.

The Huang Laboratory deciphers the structural biochemistry of membrane-spanning signaling proteins—particularly seven-transmembrane GPCRs and single-pass receptors—to reveal the molecular logic of cross-membrane communication.

Weill Cornell Medicine: Founded in 1898, and affiliated with what is now New York-Presbyterian Hospital (NYPH) since 1927, Weill Cornell Medicine (WCM) is among the top-ranked clinical and medical research centers in the country. In addition to offering degrees in medicine, WCM also has PhD programs in biomedical research and education at the Weill Cornell Graduate School of Medical Sciences, and with neighboring Sloan-Kettering Institute and The Rockefeller University, has established a joint MD-PhD program for students to intensify their pursuit of Weill Cornell's triple mission of education, research, and patient care. WCM is divided into 24 basic science and patient care departments that focus on the sciences underlying clinical medicine and/or encompass the study, treatment, and prevention of human diseases. The basic science and clinical departments are located in buildings that straddle York Ave. between 68th and 72nd streets on Manhattan’s Upper East Side. Weill Cornell Medical College has 1781 full-time faculty (3582 total faculty) distributed across 8 basic science and 15 clinical departments. WCM maintains major affiliations with Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, The Rockefeller University, the Hospital for Special Surgery, as well as with the metropolitan-area institutions that constitute NYP Healthcare Network.

Salary Range (annually): $70,000–$90,000. Weill Cornell Medicine provides the above salary range in compliance with the New York City law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The above salary range for New York City based roles represents WCM’s good faith and reasonable estimate of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Weill Cornell Medicine is an Equal Employment Opportunity Employer. Weill Cornell Medicine provides equal employment opportunities to all qualified applicants without regard to race, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, color, age, religion, protected veteran or disability status, or genetic information.
