Job Description

The department of Physics is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate who will work on laboratory experiments.

This position is funded by a grant or restricted funds. Continued employment is contingent on the renewal of grant or restricted funds.

Responsibilities:

• Contribute to design and integrate electronics into a device that will heat and mechanically test a composite sample within set dimensions. Be able to control heating and mechanically test sample remotely.
• With training, be able to run X-ray radiation experiments, scanning electron microscope and parametric analyzer
• Supervise undergraduate and graduate students on multiple projects
• Must be able to work at national labs.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience:

• PhD in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Applied Physics or similar.
• No prior experience required.

Preferred Education and Experience:

• 2 years of experience in laboratory research work.
• Designing electronic control to integrate multiple devices
• Integrating electronics to control and monitor temperature and other components with software [LabVIEW and similar]
• Creating thin films with nanoparticles for sensor development for space applications.
• Scanning Electron Microscopy
• Parametric analyzer
• Mechanical testing of samples: Instron tensile
• Experience at Sandia National Laboratory and/or Los Alamos National Laboratory
