About the opportunity
The University of Sydney is seeking to appoint two Postdoctoral Research Associates (PDAs) in future intelligent wireless communications. Working closely with our industry partners, these roles will contribute to the research, design and implementation of next generation intelligent wireless systems that integrate communication, sensing, and computing within a single unified network.
These positions will involve advancing fundamental theories and the enabling technologies needed for simultaneous communication, sensing, computing, and AI-driven wireless networking. You will also support the translation of research outcomes into practical systems and solutions in collaboration with our industry partners.
The roles sit within the Centre for IoT and Telecommunications (CIoTT) in the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering. CIoTT is internationally recognised for excellence in wireless communications and signal processing and is home to five IEEE Fellows, multiple research fellows, and more than 50 postgraduate students. The University of Sydney is ranked 13th globally in Telecommunications (Shanghai Subject Rankings).
Your key responsibilities will be to:
- develop fundamental theories and enabling technologies for intelligent wireless communication systems
- design, model and evaluate integrated communication-sensing-computing technologies
- work closely with industry partners to support technology development in real world application
- publish research outcomes in leading international journals and conferences
- contribute to supervision and mentoring of postgraduate students within CIoTT
- collaborate effectively with academic and industry stakeholders to meet project milestones
- manage research tasks, documentation and timelines.
About you

- a PhD in wireless communications, AI, signal processing or a related discipline
- demonstrated research excellence in one or more of: MIMO, reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RIS), wireless AI, integrated sensing and communications and wireless system optimisation
- strong mathematical and analytical capabilities
- a record of high-quality publications in reputable international journals
- experience in Wi Fi protocol design (desirable)
- experience working with and supporting postgraduate research students
- strong organisational skills and ability to manage competing deadlines
- excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively.
