Postdoctoral Research Fellow - Cell Biology

About This Opportunity

We are seeking up to two Postdoctoral Research Fellows to join Professor David Fairlie’s lab at the Institute for Molecular Bioscience (IMB) to conduct independent and collaborative research in cell biology or molecular pharmacology. You will study cellular regulation across projects in drug discovery, immunology, inflammatory diseases, cancer, and intracellular signalling, including design of experiments, analysing data, writing manuscripts and reports, and supporting grant applications. This position will fit into a multidisciplinary environment with opportunities for student supervision and career development. Key responsibilities will include:

  • Research: Conducting high-quality cell biology research, designing and analysing experiments, producing publications, contributing to grant applications, supervising students, maintaining accurate records, ensuring safety and ethical compliance, and engaging in collaborative and outreach activities.
  • Supervision and Researcher Development: Participate in the training, supervision and mentoring of students as appropriate.
  • Citizenship and Service: Assisting with lab maintenance, training and support of lab members, interactions with collaborators, building leadership skills, mentoring students, and administrative tasks.

About You

  • Completed PhD in Cell Biology, Immunology, or Molecular Pharmacology.
  • Demonstrated experience in core cell biology techniques (e.g., mammalian cell culture, molecular cloning, microscopy, flow cytometry, PCR, Western blot, CRISPR/Cas9, immunohistochemistry, proteomics).
  • Strong track record of publications in peer-reviewed journals, relative to opportunity.
  • Proven ability to work independently and also collaboratively in a research environment.
  • Excellent organisational and time-management skills with the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including clear presentations of complex information.
  • Interest in supervising and mentoring research students, with experience working in interdisciplinary teams or with industry collaborators.
  • Experience or interest in conducting experiments in mouse models of human disease and analysing high-throughput datasets.

The successful candidate may be required to complete a number of pre-employment checks, including: right to work in Australia, education check.
