About This Opportunity

We are seeking a highly motivated and talented Postdoctoral Research Fellow to join our interdisciplinary research team working at the intersection of nanotechnology and clinical sciences. You will contribute to the development of cutting-edge technologies for precision diagnostics, biosensing, and application of these technologies on clinical samples. This role offers a unique opportunity to work on translational projects that span fundamental discovery to clinical application, in collaboration with engineers, chemists, biologists, and clinicians.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Research:
    • Develop nanomaterial-based technologies for molecular detection and cell analysis.
    • Integrate biosensing components (e.g., optical, electrochemical, digital) into micro/nanofluidic platforms.
    • Perform surface modification, functionalization, and patterning of materials for selective bio-interfacing.
    • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to translate microfluidic systems into clinical settings.
    • Analyse experimental data and contribute to high-impact publications, presentations, and patents.
    • Produce quality research outputs consistent with discipline norms by publishing or exhibiting in high quality outlets.
    • Participate in applications for competitive research funding to support projects and activities.
    • Work with colleagues in the development of joint research projects and applications for competitive research funding support.
    • Contribute to progressing towards transfer of knowledge, technology and practices to research end users through translation, including commercialisation of UQ intellectual property.
    • Develop a coherent research program and an emerging research profile.
  • Supervision and Researcher Development: Contribute to supervision of Honours and Higher Degree by Research students, supervise and manage employees, provide performance feedback and training, resolve conflicts, and ensure correct remuneration and benefits.
  • Citizenship and Service: Develop partnerships, demonstrate leadership through mentoring, engage in internal service roles and committees, perform administrative functions, provide support to colleagues, and uphold university values.

This is a research focused position. Further information can be found by viewing UQ’s Criteria for Academic Performance.

About You

  • Completion or near completion of a PhD in Biomedical Engineering, Nanotechnology, or a related discipline.
  • Strong hands-on experience in microfluidics (design, modelling, and experimental implementation)
  • Knowledge of nanomaterials and their use in biomedical applications.
  • An emerging profile in research in the discipline area.
  • Evidence of publications in reputed refereed journals and presenting at conferences.
  • Evidence of contributions towards successfully obtaining external research funding.
  • Some experience in meaningful internal service roles and contributions towards external activities

The successful candidate may be required to complete a number of pre-employment checks, including: right to work in Australia, criminal check, education check etc.
