About This Opportunity

We are seeking an exceptional Postdoctoral Research Fellow/Research Fellow to join our dynamic research team working on cutting-edge spatiotemporal optical beam-shaping. This exciting role is based within the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) at The University of Queensland (UQ).

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Research: Design, build, and characterise optical systems for spatiotemporal beam-shaping. Disseminate research findings through high-quality publications in top-tier venues.
  • Supervision and Researcher Development: Contribute to the effective supervision of Honours and Higher Degrees by Research students (as appropriate).
  • Citizenship and Service: Develop partnerships, demonstrate leadership through mentoring, engage in internal service roles and committees, perform administrative functions, provide support to colleagues, and uphold university values.

Academic Level B (in addition to Level A Research Responsibilities):

  • Develop an independent and/or collaborative research program to achieve national recognition and impact.
  • Produce high-quality research outputs consistent with disciplinary standards, taking a lead role in selected publications.
  • Contribute as a chief investigator (often with senior researchers) to competitive research funding applications, including seeking, securing and managing funding.
  • Collaborate with colleagues on joint research projects and funding applications.
  • Support translation of research to end users, including commercialisation of UQ intellectual property.
  • Apply and promote best-practice research methodologies.

About You

  • Completion of a PhD in an optics-related field.
  • Demonstrated expertise in the simulation and design of optical systems for spatial and temporal optical beam shaping.
  • Demonstrated expertise in programming, especially C++, python, and/or Matlab.
  • Ability to work both independently and as a member of a cross-disciplinary research team.

In addition to the above, level B selection criteria:

  • A growing profile in research in the discipline area.
  • A developing reputation and track record of publications in reputed refereed journals and presenting at conferences.
  • Evidence of successfully seeking, obtaining and managing external research funding.
  • A growing record of supervision of Honours and Research Higher Degree students to successful completion.
  • Experience in meaningful internal service roles in conjunction with active contributions to external activities.
