Postdoctoral Research Scholar
This position will assist in establishing a new research focus in the area of Artificial Intelligence (AI)/Machine Learning (ML) in Construction Engineering and Management. Construction projects generate a significant amount of both structured and unstructured data that can be analyzed using advanced data analytic approaches to provide information for better decision-making and improved project performance. Construction sites generate a significant amount of documents (e.g., monthly reports, contracts, requests for information, change orders, etc.) as well as images (video and photo logs of a project's progression). These data can be processed using conventional statistical approaches as well as more sophisticated AI/ML techniques.
Duties and responsibilities include (but not limited to):
- conducting important research in the area of AI/ML for improving construction project performance through literature reviews, surveys and focus groups
- summarizing these findings in scholarly publications
- writing proposals
- sharing this knowledge with the public at large
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education: Background with the construction industry and knowledge in artificial intelligence and machine learning.
Ph.D. in a construction-related field with demonstrated research experience in multimodal AI, computing, and related technologies. Candidates with a second degree, such as a master's degree, in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Data Analytics, or a closely related field are especially encouraged to apply. Experience in proposal writing and a strong publication record in top-tier journals are highly desirable. Self-motivated candidates who can work independently and collaboratively are preferred.
