The Institute of Slavic Studies, Polish Academy of Sciences (ISS PAS) announces an open competition for the position of post-doc in the project “The Rzeszów Pogrom of 11–12 June 1945: A Comparative Study” for a fixed-term period of 24 months.
Position: Researcher – Assistant Professor (Postdoctoral Researcher in NCN OPUS 30 project: “The Rzeszów Pogrom of 11–12 June 1945: A Comparative Study”)
Organizational unit: Department of History, Institute of Slavic Studies, Polish Academy of Sciences.
Essential requirements resulting from the project „The Rzeszów Pogrom of 11–12 June 1945: A Comparative Study”
- A doctoral degree obtained at an institution other than the institution where the candidate is to be employed, or at least nine months of continuous, documented research experience undertaken during doctoral education, doctoral studies, or after obtaining the doctoral degree, at an institution other than the institution implementing the project and in a country other than the country in which the doctoral degree was obtained.
- During the period of receiving remuneration under the project, the candidate may not receive any other remuneration from direct costs of research projects funded through NCN competitions.
- During the period of receiving remuneration under the project, the candidate may not receive remuneration from another employer under an employment contract, including an employer based outside Poland.
- During the period of receiving remuneration under the project, the candidate may not receive a pension or equivalent benefits in Poland or abroad.
- A doctoral degree in the humanities in the field of history, or in the field of anthropology or ethnography, obtained no earlier than 12 years prior to the announcement of the competition, and a master’s degree in one of these fields.

- Experience in conducting archival research and critically analysing diverse sources, with particular focus on the territory of the General Government during the German occupation.
- Experience in implementing research projects.
- Excellent command of the Polish language.
- English proficiency at a minimum of B2 level, both spoken and written.
- Experience in international collaboration.
- Good time-management skills and the ability to work as part of a team.
- Accuracy and reliability in carrying out assigned tasks.
- Ability and willingness to engage in independent learning and professional development.
- Knowledge of the holdings and resources of archival and museum institutions.
- A scholarly record including publications and monographic studies published in Poland.
- Familiarity with both monographs on pogroms by Professor Joanna Tokarska-Bakir (Pod klątwą, 2018, and Kocia muzyka, 2023), as well as knowledge of the prosopographical method on which they are based.
Desirable qualifications
- Documented research interests in regional history, particularly modern and contemporary history, demonstrated through academic publications or conference presentations.
- Experience in a managerial position at a research institution or another organization.
- The candidate's own initiative concerning the extension of the project's research to additional archival resources.

Financial conditions
Gross gross remuneration of PLN 17,500 per month for 24 months.
Eligibility criteria
