Postdoctoral Position in Cultural Science

Position: Postdoctoral Researcher – Climate Adaptation and Green Transition in Kalaallit Nunaat (Greenland)

Department: Greenlandic and Arctic Studies, Department of Cross-Cultural and Regional Studies, Faculty of Humanities, University of Copenhagen

Start Date: February 1, 2026 (or as soon as possible thereafter)

Duration: 22 months

Project: LIQUIDICE – Horizon Europe project on impacts of climate change on snow, ice, permafrost, water resources, and society (https://cordis.europa.eu/project/id/101184962)

Location: Greenland and Denmark

Project Overview

  • Focus on citizen engagement, public resistance, democratic participation, and green energy transitions (e.g., hydropower) in Arctic communities.
  • Study local climate adaptation strategies, hydropower practices, and societal impacts of changing cryosphere-derived water resources.
  • Collaborate with natural scientists and international research consortium partners across Europe and India.

Candidate Profile

  • PhD in Arctic Studies, social sciences, or humanities.
  • Strong interdisciplinary research skills.
  • Expertise in climate adaptation, renewable energy, and/or policy studies.
  • Experience with stakeholder engagement and interdisciplinary collaboration.
  • Proficiency in English; knowledge of Greenlandic (Kalaallisut) or a Scandinavian language is an advantage.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct independent research aligned with LIQUIDICE WP4.2.
  • Collaborate with consortium partners and contribute to interdisciplinary research.
  • Engage with local communities and stakeholders in Greenland.
  • Disseminate research findings through publications and outreach activities.
