Postdoctoral Researcher: Effects of Cannabis Supply Modes on Health and Safety Outcomes
Job Summary: This project, funded by the Dutch Research Council (NWO), examines how different cannabis supply modes (coffeeshops, social contacts, online) affect health and safety outcomes. It aims to provide insights on harm reduction and the potential benefits of government-regulated online coffeeshops. The role involves developing theories, conducting research, and collaborating with societal partners.
Responsibilities: Review relevant literature; Design and conduct observational studies, including developing a new questionnaire and coordinating data collection; Process, code, and analyze data; Collaborate on 1-2 empirical and theoretical scientific papers; Translate scientific findings into practice-oriented advice; Optionally, supervise master-thesis students.
Qualifications and Requirements: An almost completed or completed PhD degree in criminology, pedagogics, psychology, health-related sciences, sociology, or a related discipline; Demonstrated affinity with research on substance use; Experience with conducting and publishing high-quality research; Project-management skills; Excellent oral and written communication skills in English; Excellent data-analytic skills, especially with structural equation modeling; Experience with moderation and mediation analyses; High degree of conscientiousness, flexibility, persistence, and a collaborative attitude; Dutch language skills are beneficial but not required; Available to start between September 15th and October 1st, 2025.
What the Employer Offers: A temporary position of 0.4 FTE (15.2 hours per week) for 12 months (September 15th, 2025, to September 14th, 2026); Potential temporary extension for master-thesis supervision; Mentoring by Dr. Ivy Defoe at the University of Amsterdam; Collaboration with the Annenberg Public Policy Center at the University of Pennsylvania.
