A postdoctoral position is available in the Green Chemical Reaction Engineering group of Prof. Peter J. Deuss, where the postdoc is expected to characterize and convert isolated and purified carbon streams to mesophase carbon and graphitic materials for carbon fibre applications.
What are you going to do?
Graphite is considered a critical material for Europe because it is essential for strategic clean-tech and multiple industrial applications, while Europe is highly dependent on imports with concentrated supply risks. The Graphene project is a partnership between BioBTX, Teijin Europe, ISPT, the university of Groningen and the Hanze University of Applied Science, which aims to develop and optimize the production of graphite from side-streams from the BioBTX Integrated Cascading Catalytic Pyrolysis process based on waste plastics.
Expected:
- Plan and execute experimental work based on the description above.
- Communicate finding to the project team in written report form and via presentations at project meetings.
- Participate in research activities within the research group, participating in general activities to keep the laboratory facilities running.
Requirements
Required:
- PhD in Chemical or related sciences.
- Experience with carbon-based materials and their characterization.
- Knowledge of handling different reactor setups.
- Experience with working safely in a chemical laboratory environment.
- Good communication skills, orally and written.
Conditions of employment
Fixed-term contract: A temporary contract of 5 months.
What can you expect from us?
- 232 vacation hours per year, based on a 38-hour workweek (1.0 FTE). You can also work more or fewer hours in exchange for more or fewer free hours. For example, with a 40-hour workweek, you save 96 extra free hours, and with a 36-hour workweek, you lose 96 hours.
