Yıldız Technical University / YTU Yıldız Technopark invites expressions of interest from postdoctoral researchers who wish to apply for the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions Postdoctoral Fellowships programme in the field of electric machine design.
The proposed research area focuses on the design, modelling, optimisation and validation of electric machines, particularly induction motors and permanent magnet synchronous motors, including PMSM, IPMSM and SPMSM topologies. The selected candidate will be expected to contribute to advanced R&D activities involving electromagnetic design, mechanical and thermal assessment, finite element analysis, prototype development, testing and performance validation.
The hosting environment offers the opportunity to work on interdisciplinary research topics related to next-generation motor technologies, high-efficiency electric machines, electric vehicle traction motors, high power density designs and multi-physics optimisation approaches.
Possible Research Topics
The proposed MSCA-PF project may address, but is not limited to, the following topics:
- Electromagnetic design and optimisation of induction motors and permanent magnet synchronous motors;
- Development of high-efficiency and high power density electric motor topologies;
- Design and analysis of PMSM, IPMSM and SPMSM architectures;
- Multi-physics modelling including electromagnetic, mechanical, thermal and structural analyses;
- Torque ripple reduction, loss analysis, demagnetisation assessment and thermal performance improvement;
- NVH-related design considerations in electric machines;
- Design, prototyping, testing and validation of electric motor systems;
- Advanced optimisation algorithms for electric machine design;
- Electric vehicle traction motor design and performance improvement;
- Integration of MATLAB/Simulink, Python or similar engineering tools into motor design and analysis workflows.
Candidate Profile
We are looking for motivated postdoctoral researchers with a strong background in electric machine design and analysis. Applicants should preferably have:
- A PhD degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering or a closely related field;
- Academic or industrial experience in the design of induction motors and permanent magnet motors, particularly PMSM, IPMSM and/or SPMSM;
- Strong knowledge of electromagnetic design, optimisation and performance analysis;
- Familiarity with mechanical design principles, rotor-stator structures, thermal behaviour and structural assessment;
- Experience with finite element analysis tools such as Ansys Maxwell, Motor-CAD, JMAG, Flux or equivalent software;
- Knowledge of motor efficiency, torque ripple, NVH, losses, thermal performance and demagnetisation analyses;
- Experience in prototype development, testing and validation processes;
- Strong technical reporting, documentation and analytical problem-solving skills;
- Ability to work in an interdisciplinary research environment;
- Preferably, a track record of international publications, patents and/or participation in R&D projects.
Experience in electric vehicle traction motors, high power density motor design, optimisation algorithms, multi-disciplinary design approaches, MATLAB/Simulink, Python or similar engineering software will be considered an advantage.
Expected Contribution of the Researcher
The MSCA-PF candidate is expected to contribute to the preparation and implementation of a high-quality research project aligned with the objectives of the MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowships programme. The researcher may be involved in:
- Conducting electromagnetic design and optimisation studies for induction motors and permanent magnet motors;
- Performing mechanical, thermal and electromagnetic performance analyses;
- Investigating and developing next-generation motor topologies;
- Supporting prototype development and interpreting test results;
- Contributing to R&D project activities and design verification processes;
- Following international academic and industrial developments in electric machine technologies;
- Producing scientific publications, technical reports and dissemination outputs;
- Supporting knowledge transfer between academia, industry and technology development environments.
