This position offers the opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge fusion research within an international and collaborative environment, with a strong emphasis on experimental and control activities in the SMART tokamak, one of Europe’s most innovative compact fusion devices.

Job description
- Research project: conduct an independent research line focused on Negative Triangularity
- Leadership role: control and data acquisition systems for the SMART tokamak
- Develop and apply numerical simulations, with emphasis on:
- Plasma equilibrium
- Transport phenomena
- Contribute to the development of high-temperature super-conducting coils for next upgrade of SMART
- Contribute to the supervision of PhD students (including ongoing thesis projects)

Desired
- Experience in magnetic confinement systems
- Experience in computational plasma physics, including simulations of plasma equilibrium and / or transport phenomena
- Spanish knowledge
- Ability to collaborate with industrial partners
- Strong record of publications in a closely related field
- Driving license (not essential requirement)
Specific Requirements
Required
- PhD in Plasma Physics, Engineering or a closely related field. Experience in magnetic confinement plasmas is desired
- Expertise in plasma control
- Proficiency in commonly-used programming languages, e.g. FORTRAN, C, IDL, Python, Matlab
- Experience developing software, ideally within a team
- Knowledge of good software engineering practices and Quality Assurance systems (including version control, testing frameworks and debuggers)
- Proven ability to conduct independent research and work within a multidisciplinary and international team, including collaboration with industry
- English proficiency, with good oral and written communication skills
