Offer Description
The Institute of Molecular Biology, Slovak Academy of Sciences, invites applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher position in the Synthetic Microbiology Group led by Dr. Jan Jamroskovic. The successful candidate will join a research project funded by the IMPULZ programme of the Slovak Academy of Sciences focused on understanding the biological function of non-canonical DNA structures.
The project investigates the formation, function, and biological significance of G-quadruplexes and their interactions with cellular proteins in bacteria. The successful candidate will combine molecular biology, microbiology, biochemistry, and protein engineering approaches to identify and characterize proteins interacting with G-quadruplex structures and determine their role in bacterial physiology and gene regulation.
The position offers the opportunity to work at the interface of molecular microbiology, DNA structural biology, and synthetic biology within an internationally competitive research environment.
Type of Work, Competencies and Responsibilities
The successful candidate will:
- Investigate the role of G-quadruplex-forming sequences in bacterial genomes.
- Identify and characterize proteins interacting with G-quadruplex DNA structures.
- Clone, express and purify recombinant proteins from bacterial systems.
- Perform biochemical and biophysical analyses of protein-DNA interactions.
- Construct and characterize genetically modified bacterial strains.
- Apply molecular biology and microbiology techniques to study gene regulation.
- Design and execute independent research projects.
- Publish results in peer-reviewed international journals.
- Present research findings at international conferences.
- Contribute to supervision of undergraduate and graduate students.
Compensation Guidelines
The initial gross monthly salary will be determined according to Act No. 553/2003 Coll., considering the qualifications, scientific achievements, and length of professional experience of the candidate. The gross monthly salary ranges from EUR 1,533 to EUR 2,200, with the final salary depending on the candidate's qualifications, experience, and track record. The position includes additional project-based remuneration beyond the base salary, provided from externally funded research projects.
