Postdoctoral Researcher - Integrated multi-model multi-hazard flood forecasting (IMUFF)
Vacancy ID: 041283
Closing Date: 17-May-2026
We are seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher with expertise in ocean science, climate science, hydrology, or data science to contribute to the Integrated multi-model multi-hazard flood forecasting (IMUFF) research project on compound fluvial–coastal flooding in Ireland funded by Met Éireann and led by the University of Galway.
The successful candidate will be based at Maynooth University and will lead analysis of the observational and statistical foundations of sea level data required to robustly characterise tidal, storm surge, and fluvial flood interactions.
The postholder will assess the adequacy of existing observation networks, identify key data gaps, and develop quantitative analyses of compound flooding drivers using tide gauge, river flow, meteorological, and reanalysis datasets. They will generate probabilistic descriptions of extreme events to support the future‑proofing of fluvial–coastal models in an Irish context, and provide derived datasets and statistical insights to other work packages within the project
Post-Doctoral Researcher (2026): €46,805 p.a. (1 point)
Appointments will be made in accordance with public sector pay provisions.
