About you

Myeloma UK is looking for someone with a proven track record in Health Psychology/Social Sciences, experience working in healthcare environments, as well as working with cancer patients, their families and academic stakeholders to join our Applied Health Research team.

You will have knowledge and expertise in qualitative research methods, in particular framework analysis and in the management of qualitative data sets. You will need to understand the needs and preferences of patients and their families as well as other stakeholders.

The role requires you to be self-motivated with the ability to work independently. You will have the ability to communicate well at all levels both internally and externally. You will need a high level of flexibility regarding working hours as some evening work will be required to deliver the research. You will also be required to travel to the Edinburgh office on a regular basis.

About the role

The Postdoctoral Researcher will work collaboratively with the Principal Researcher in Applied Health Research in Myeloma UK to deliver a qualitative study that is part of a larger project being carried out by our academic partners at the University of Birmingham, funded by BCUK. We are assessing the patient/carer/HCP experiences of current monitoring for myeloma compared to a new blood test being developed by researchers at the University of Birmingham.

You will work with the Applied Health Research Team in Myeloma UK and University of Birmingham collaborators to deliver the project, ensuring the research is carried out in line with the protocol and ethics approvals.  The role will require you to undertake interviews with patients, carers and healthcare professionals, managing this process in line with the project plan and schedule for the project. You will also play a significant role in the analysis of the data and ongoing reporting to ensure smooth and efficient delivery of the research. The postholder will also actively manage the effective recruitment to the study in collaboration with teams in Myeloma UK.
