Postdoctoral Researchers in Mathematical Analysis

Postdoctoral Researchers in Mathematical Analysis

The Department of Mathematics and Systems Analysis at the School of Science, Aalto University, is seeking two to four Postdoctoral Researchers in Mathematical Analysis to work under the supervision of Prof. Tuomas Hytönen and/or Prof. Riikka Korte.

Your role and research focus

You will conduct research in one or several of the following topics:

  1. Commutators of singular integrals and pointwise multipliers (with Hytönen),
  2. Poincaré inequalities and Sobolev-type spaces (with Hytönen and/or Korte),
  3. Conformal deformations of metric measure spaces and/or general regularity and convergence for graph-based machine learning using stochastic game theory and theory of metric spaces (with Korte).

The positions are associated with Research Council of Finland projects Commutators, compactness, and application; Finnish Centre of Excellence in Randomness and Structures; and Geometric analysis, stochastics and partial differential equations, interactions and applications.

The starting date is flexible, preferably no later than September 2026. The positions are for a period of 1–2 years with a possible one-year extension. Considering different life situations, applications for a longer or a shorter contract with us are equally welcome.

Your experience

We expect you to have a PhD (or equivalent) degree in mathematics, a strong research background in analysis with emphasis on areas supporting one or several of the research topics above, and motivation to pursue research in the direction suggested by your chosen supervisor. Candidates expecting to graduate soon are eligible to apply, but the PhD degree will have to be completed before starting the contract.

Strong written and oral skills in English are necessary. We expect you to be fluent in mathematical expression and style, with the ability to transform your results into a professional-quality research article under minimal guidance.

Finnish language is not required, either for this position or for the daily life in Finland.

What we offer

We offer a diverse, international, and open research environment.

The initial gross salary is €4064/month, and the contract includes occupational health care.

There is funding for making conference and collaboration visits as well as inviting guests.

The positions are research-oriented with a possibility of a small teaching component (0–10% of annual working time) depending on the department’s needs and the postdoc’s wishes of gaining experience.

How to apply

Please send your application as a single PDF file through the eRecruitment system via the link ‘Apply now’. Review of applications will begin on April 1, 2026, and continue until the positions are filled. We may invite suitable candidates to an (online) interview already during the application period. The application portal will be closed at the latest on April 30, 2026 at 23:59 EET (UTC+2). The application material should include the following. All other documents must be in English, but the PhD certificate may also be in another language using the Latin alphabet.

  • Cover letter
  • Research statement (approximately 1--2 pages)
  • CV
  • List of publications with links to online versions of selected publications (e.g. arXiv)
  • PhD certificate (or an estimated graduation date if the degree is not completed)
  • Names and contact details of 1–3 references

Please indicate in your cover letter your preferences concerning:

  • whether your wish to work under Prof. Hytönen, Prof. Korte, either one, or both,
  • the research topic(s) among those listed above,
  • the starting date and the duration of your contract with us.

Please provide a short verbal explanation of your English proficiency, where and how you have acquired it, and what experience you have of using English as a working language.

Please note: Aalto University’s employees should apply for the position via our internal HR system Workday (Internal Jobs) by using their existing Workday user account (not via the external webpage for open positions). Aalto University’s students and visitors should apply as external candidates with personal (not aalto) email.

For further information on the available positions, please contact Prof. Tuomas Hytönen and/or Prof. Riikka Korte (riikka.korte@aalto.fi). In application process related questions, please contact HR Partner Johanna Glader (johanna.glader@aalto.fi).
