"Postdoctoral Scholar: Microbiome Ecology and Evolution"

The Department of Earth System Science at the University of California, Irvine invites applications for a 2-year postdoctoral scholar in microbiome ecology and evolution as part of Bio-GO-SHIP.

Salary range: $66,737 - $80,034 per year.

This is a two-year position that is renewable, pending good progress and funding. The scholar will lead research projects linked to the large-scale biogeography and dynamics of marine microbiomes using advanced bioinformatics and models. Specifically, the postdoc will use globally collected meta-omics data to understand controls, population dynamics, and ecosystem impact of marine microbiomes. Although the majority of the research will be computational, it is possible to participate in large oceanographic expeditions and/or molecular work in the laboratory. The scholar is expected to organize several research projects and engage in external collaborations. A hybrid work schedule may be accommodated.

The Earth System Science Department at UC Irvine is highly interdisciplinary, with 30 faculty devoted to the study of the Earth as a coupled system. UC Irvine is located in Orange County, California, surrounded by beaches, parks, and mountains.

Qualifications:

• An expected or recent Ph.D. in microbiology, ecology, molecular biology, or oceanography.
• Scientific experience with microbiomes.
• Proficient in bioinformatic analyses.
• Detail oriented with strong organizational and communication skills.
