The Department of Psychology

The Department of Psychology is now inviting applications for a doctoral position in psychology in any field within the subject, based on the applicant’s own proposed project plan.

Doctoral Programme

The doctoral programme in psychology comprises 240 credits, corresponding to four years of full-time study, and concludes with a public defence of the doctoral thesis. Regulations for employment as a doctoral student are found in the Higher Education Ordinance (Chapter 5, Sections 1–7).

Doctoral students are expected to devote themselves to their doctoral studies and to take an active part in the research and teaching environment on site at the department in Lund. In addition to their own studies, departmental duties of up to 20 percent of full-time may be required—primarily teaching, but also research or administrative tasks—in accordance with applicable regulations.

Eligibility

Applicants meet the general entry requirements for third-cycle studies if they have:

  • completed a second-cycle degree,
  • completed courses of at least 240 credits, of which at least 60 credits at second-cycle level, or
  • acquired substantially equivalent knowledge in Sweden or abroad.

Applicants meet the specific entry requirements for third-cycle studies in psychology if they have:

  • passed at least 30 second-cycle credits in psychology, including a degree project of at least 15 credits, or
  • acquired equivalent knowledge in Sweden or abroad.

Assessment Criteria

According to the Higher Education Ordinance and SFS 1998:80, selection among eligible applicants shall primarily be based on their ability to successfully pursue doctoral studies.

Excellent written and spoken English is required and will be assessed through interviews with the highest-ranked candidates.

Type of Employment

Fixed-term employment as a doctoral student for four years, with monthly salary in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance, Chapter 5, Section 7.

About the Faculty and Department

The Faculty of Social Sciences at Lund University is one of the leading education and research institutions in Sweden and operates both in Lund and Helsingborg.

The Department of Psychology combines education with research and has in recent years been very successful in the competition for external research funds. Central research areas include occupational and organizational psychology, clinical psychology, cognition, neuropsychology, personality and social psychology and developmental psychology.

Many of our courses are developed in connection with research projects, and students are given the opportunity to gain access to current research findings from teachers who themselves are active researchers in their respective areas. Our education environment has long been highly internationalized.
