At the Institute of Mathematics and Computer Science, which belongs to the University of Greifswald's Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, there is a job vacancy that is expected to be available from 1 January 2027, subject to budgetary regulations, for a full-time position as
(Postdoctoral) Teaching Associate
(akademische*r Rätin*Rat)
in the field of computer science education. The position on offer is permanent and suitable for part-time employment.
The post has been rated with pay grade A13. If the successful candidate is able to fulfil the requirements pursuant to civil service law, the University will employ them as a civil servant in higher service (zweites Einstiegsamt der Laufbahngruppe 2) with a specialisation in research. Otherwise, they shall be employed as a public employee in pay group 13 TV-L Wissenschaft if the personal and pay group specific qualifications can be provided.
Tasks:
- Development and holding of classes (lectures, tutorials, seminars, and practical courses) within the teacher education programme for computer science, including classes for alternative and second-degree teacher education programmes as well as for the dual teacher education programme pursuant to LVVO M-V (current plans for 12 classes à 45 min. per week)
- Supervision of state examination theses in computer science education and contribution to the selection and development of suitable thesis topics
- Participation in the preparation and holding of examinations
- Contribution to the establishment and further development of the computer science teacher education programme, particularly with regard to its academic content and curriculum
- Participation in providing academic advice to students on the computer science teacher education programme
- Conducting research in the field of computer science education
Required:
- Successfully completed university degree in computer science education (teacher education) or computer science
- This civil service post will only be conferred if the successful candidate is qualified to serve as a civil servant in higher service, performing academic duties. If they are unable to provide the required professional qualifications for higher service, a postgraduate university degree and at least two years and six months of full-time employment in a relevant field can also be recognised as equivalent professional qualification. The details are defined in § 14(4) Landesbeamtengesetz - LBG M-V (State Civil Service Act) and § 12 Allgemeine Laufbahnverordnung - ALVO M-V (General Career Path Ordinance for Civil Servants).
Additional knowledge and skills that will be considered in the selection process are:
- Doctorate (PhD or equivalent) in computer science education or computer science
- Demonstrated experience in independently teaching computer science (education) at university level, proven, for example, by teaching evaluations
- Practical teaching experience in schools
- Programming skills in Java or Python
- Excellent German language skills (at least CEFR level C1)
- Experience in subject-specific teacher education in computer science
- Demonstrated teaching and pedagogical competence, proven, for example, by certificates in higher education teaching
- Experience in supervising undergraduate and/or graduate theses
- Excellent English language skills
- Experience in academic publishing
- Confident and professional manner, with the ability to respond appropriately to different situations and act in a solution-oriented manner
