Job Description

Do you enjoy helping students make the most of their studies? Do you welcome the opportunity to initiate new and more efficient ways of supporting our students? Can you work in a fast-paced, dynamic, team-oriented environment? Then this temporary position as PPLE Study Adviser at the University of Amsterdam might be something for you!

Come join our small scale and vibrant community! Due to long-term illness of one of our Study Advisers, we are looking for an enthusiastic colleague for a minimum of 6 months; extension may be possible.

What you will do

As a Study Adviser, you will help students by giving personal support and guidance. You will work closely with other Study Advisers and the Education Team. The Study Adviser helps students adjust to studying at university and helps them handle various life challenges. You give students advice about extra-curricular opportunities, such as taking electives. You will also give guidance to students with disabilities or personal circumstances or study problems and have a direct referral function to medical and paramedical staff (e.g. student psychologists) within the university. We are looking for a Study Adviser who is particularly aware of the fact that our international student population, more than half of our students is from abroad, has specific questions and needs. You should feel comfortable in such a diverse work environment.

Your tasks:

  • Guiding and advising students with study related or other challenges;
  • Making individual study plans by advising students on academic planning, curriculum, continue / discontinue of study and evaluating their own performance;
  • Referring students, if necessary, to other counsellors, psychologists or career centre;
  • Informing students about programme related rules and regulations;
  • Monitoring overall progress of students (including first-year (pre) advice) and signal delays;
  • Organising information meetings for students during the years.

What we expect from you

The successful PPLE Study Adviser has experience in working with international students, preferably within an excellence or honours programme.

Furthermore you have:

  • A completed higher professional education or university degree;
  • Experience in working with international students, preferably within an honours programme;
  • Experience with conducting interviews is a plus;
  • A proactive and solution-oriented work attitude;
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team;
  • Excellent written and spoken command of Dutch and English.

What we offer you

We offer a temporary employment contract for 6 months (with a probationary period of one month) and the possibility of extension, preferably starting beginning of January 2026. The employment contract is for 15.2 or 22.8 hours a week.

Your salary, depending on your relevant experience on commencement of the employment contract, ranges between €3,546 to €5,538 gross per month on the basis of a full working week of 38 hours. In addition, you will receive 8% holiday allowance and 8.3% year-end allowance. The Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities (CAO NU) is applicable.

In addition to this you will also become part of an enjoyable PPLE community of support staff, tutors and lecturers. To help nourish the bonds in our community we host group outings a few times a year and have lunches provided to the office twice a week.
