Pre-doctoral Researcher - Technical Associate (Clem Aeppli) 2026/2027
Clem Aeppli (MIT-Sloan) is recruiting a highly skilled and motivated individual to work as a full-time research assistant for a duration of at least one year, with the possibility of extending to two years. The ideal start date is July 1, 2026. The selected candidate will contribute to research across a number of topics related to work, organizations, and inequality. Examples include precarious and unstable employment; racial income inequality; the effect of financial markets on organizations and workers; and the history of industrialization.
The selected candidate will develop advanced skills in data management, statistical methods and programming, and research design. They will have the opportunity to work across fields such as economic sociology, organizational theory, and labor relations, using data that ranges from large-scale administrative data to archival records. They will also gain experience collaborating on complex projects with organizational partners and researchers at other universities. This opportunity will be especially useful for candidates interested in pursuing a PhD or advanced Master’s program in Sociology, Labor Relations, Management, Public Policy, or related disciplines.
- Prepares data for analysis, conducts statistical and econometric analysis, and produces tables and figures using statistical programming languages (R, Stata, or Python)
- Writes memos summarizing methods and results, and contributes to academic manuscripts for journal publication
- Synthesizes academic literature to identify relevant theories, methods, and findings
- May conduct historical research in archives and design surveys of organizations
- Other duties as needed or required
- This position may require occasional travel to conferences or research sites elsewhere in the United States.
Pay Range: $50,000-$63,000
- Bachelor’s degree in Sociology, Economics, History, Statistics, or a related field, obtained prior to the start of the position.
- Minimum 2 years’ specialized experience with qualitative data analysis, research methods, social sciences (which may include experience gained as an undergraduate).
- Strong skills in written communication and time management
- Experience with social-scientific research and statistical methods, including experience gained through coursework or as a research assistant.
- Interest in scholarship in sociology, labor relations, management, economics, and public policy.
- Strong skills manipulating datasets, conducting statistical analysis, and producing tables and figures using R, Stata, or Python.
- Ability to work independently on complex projects
- Candidates must have authorization to work in the US for the duration of the appointment.
