President
Brandeis University, a medium-sized, private research university with a global reach located in the suburbs of Boston, seeks a decisive, forward-looking President to lead the institution at a defining moment for higher education.
Both a liberal arts college and an R1 research university, Brandeis is one of just 71 members of the Association of American Universities. Brandeis’ faculty are leaders in their fields, as passionate about teaching and mentorship as they are about pushing the boundaries of knowledge. Its students are motivated, compassionate, curious, welcoming, and open to exploring new experiences. Brandeis’ community is rooted in purpose, guided by its founding values, and poised to lead in education and research in the 21st century.
Brandeis University is a community of scholars and students united by their commitment to the pursuit of knowledge and its transmission from generation to generation. Established in 1948 as a model of ethnic and religious pluralism, Brandeis University considers social justice central to its mission as a nonsectarian university founded by members of the American Jewish community. At its core, Brandeis is animated by a set of values that are rooted in Jewish history and experience.
In September 2025, the University unveiled “The Brandeis Plan to Reinvent the Liberal Arts,” a sweeping redesign of academic structures, curricula, degree programs, teaching methods, career education, and student support systems that integrates the values of a rigorous liberal arts education with career readiness, ethical grounding, and lifelong learning.
Building on renewed momentum and the Brandeis Plan to Reinvent the Liberal Arts, the next President will advance a clear institutional vision that strengthens Brandeis as a leading research university committed to academic excellence while honoring its founding by the American Jewish community. The next President must be both an accomplished leader and an experienced enterprise builder, with the judgment to guide complex change. Above all, Brandeis seeks a President who combines long-term, strategic vision with operational discipline, intellectual credibility with entrepreneurial energy, and respect for the University’s mission with the confidence to shape its next chapter.
Brandeis University will be assisted by Jackie Zavitz, J.J. Cutler, Meghan Ashbrock, and Sara Szynal of Heidrick & Struggles, Inc.
The salary range for this role is expected to be over $1,000,000 annually. Compensation for this role will be determined based on experience and skillset.
Nominations and applications should be directed to: BrandeisPresident@heidrick.com.
