Tutor in Design at Edinburgh College of Art
Grade UE06: £32,982 to £38,205 Per annum, Pro-rata*
Applications are invited for a Guaranteed Hours (GH), open ended contract as a Tutor in Design on the following course(s):
- DESI11162 The Business of Craft & Design
A minimum of 60 hours will be offered between January - May 2025 with a variable guarantee renewed annually.
The Opportunity:
The School of Design is looking for a tutor with creative business knowledge and design experience to teach students on a practical course focused on creative business start-up. You are invited to apply to join a team of practice tutors - assisting with tutoring, feedback and assessment during the second semester 2024-25 session. The course sits within a suite of elective courses within a range of established master’s Design programmes such as MA Illustration, MA Graphic Design, MA Design for Change and MA Design Informatics. The course has a range of specified learning outcomes and aligns with professional practice taught within the School of Design’s postgraduate programmes.
Your skills and attributes for success:
- Recent or current creative business owner with a minimum of 5 years’ experience of business start-up in the field of Design.
- Ability to work within a team with a collegial attitude, respect and sensitivity toward students and other staff members.
- Ability to apply professional practice experience from real life situations to enhance student understanding.
- Good communication and presentation skills.
- An enthusiastic, positive and creative approach to teaching.

*GH contracts are based on the number of hours required to deliver a specific task, over a set period. They are paid at an hourly rate based on the pro-rata salary, allowing a flexible approach for practitioners to engage in their specific field(s) of expertise. These roles will usually be assigned significantly more hours than the minimum and never less than the guarantee.
