Position Summary
Olivet Nazarene University’s College of Arts and Sciences is seeking a part-time, on-ground adjunct instructor for laboratory course sections in geology (ESS 105 The Dynamic Earth) and astronomy (ESS 150 Planetary Astronomy). The lab instructor will work closely with the faculty who are teaching the lectures for these courses; labs are written by the lecture faculty. The minimum qualification is a bachelor’s degree in geology, astronomy, or a related scientific field. Experience teaching physical geology, physical geography, and/or astronomy is preferred but not required.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Responsibilities include working closely with the instructors who teach the lecture sections of the introductory Geology and Astronomy courses, lab instruction, overseeing student Teaching Assistants and attending weekly TA meetings, tracking student attendance, and the assessment of student learning.

EDUCATION
Required: Bachelor’s degree in geology, astronomy, geography, environmental science, or a related scientific discipline. Master’s or doctoral degree is preferred but not required. Previous instructional experience preferred.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The adjunct instructor will teach lab sections for courses on the main campus located in Bourbonnais, IL, based on materials written and provided by the Faculty of record for the lecture courses. Adjunct instructors are classified as part-time faculty, which does not afford benefits by the University.
