Printing Press Operator
Advertised Job Summary
University of South Carolina Printing Services is looking for an operator to produce quality printed products on a one, or multiple, color offset lithography printing press; including four color process printing. Employee must be able to interpret and follow printing specifications, maintain the daily schedule and accurately document time and material consumed in software. Following supervisor’s requirements, department policies, and safety guidelines are an essential measure of success for this position. The employee must constantly strive to improve his/her efficiency, as well as providing feedback to his/her manager to improve other areas of the department. The position demands a productive focus, without sacrificing quality or safety. Following the manager’s schedule for machine maintenance is primarily the operator’s responsibility. This position may be utilized throughout the department, including non-printing functions, based on workflow requirements. We prefer four (4) years of offset lithography printing experience. Must be flexible to allow for schedule changes and/or overtime to meet deadlines. Experience on Heidelberg PM74, Heidelberg QM46, and/or HALM Jet Envelope printing presses is preferred.
Job Related Minimum Required Education and Experience
Typically holds a high school diploma or GED. Requires no prior work experience.
Required Certification, Licensure/Other Credentials
Valid Driver’s License required and must provide be able to provide a copy of their driving history to qualify.
Preferred Qualifications
We prefer four (4) years of offset lithography printing experience. Experience on Heidelberg PM74, Heidelberg QM46, and HALM Jet Envelope printing presses is preferred.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- Must be able to produce quality printed products, while meeting management’s productivity rate, on a one, or multiple, color offset lithography printing press; including four color process, varnishes, etc.
- Ability to provide professional customer contact, ability to manage stress, and time management.

Job Duties
Employee is required to perform maintenance on the machines they are assigned to maintain. Maintenance must be performed per management’s directives and recorded in the maintenance log book. Maintain their work areas by keeping the area clean and free of known safety hazards, by following all safety related policies. Immediately make the production manager aware of any potential risks. Operate a printing press and/or various printing equipment, including bindery machines and hand work using established procedures and safety guidelines to ensure that quality products are produced. The productivity rate must meet management’s expectations. (Essential Function: Yes, Percentage of Time: 35)
Must accurately and efficiently cut stock during pre-press and post-press cutting requirements. Ability to produce quality products, while meeting management’s productivity rate, in other ancillary functions of print manufacturing. These areas include, but are not limited to: plate making, digital printing, bindery, filing, deliveries, etc. (Essential Function: Yes, Percentage of Time: 30)
Complete orders by using the appropriate amount of stock noted on the job ticket. Any deviation from the planned amount of paper use, must be pre-approved by your supervisor. The exact amount of materials used must be recorded on the job ticket. (Essential Function: Yes, Percentage of Time: 25)
