Pro Vice-Chancellor, Faculty of Health and Life Sciences

The University of Bristol is one of the UK’s most successful and internationally recognised universities, ranked 51st in the world and 8th in the UK in the QS World University Rankings 2026. With a community of over 31,000 students and 9,000 staff, the University continues to grow in scale and ambition, underpinned by significant investment across its academic environment and estate.

Our Temple Quarter Enterprise Campus opens its doors in September 2026, a transformative new development in the heart of the city. Bringing together world‑class teaching and research in innovation, digital engineering and emerging technologies, the campus will deepen the University’s role in the region and create new opportunities for collaboration with industry, communities and civic partners. Alongside this, the University is extending its global reach with a new Mumbai Enterprise Campus from August 2026, strengthening its international partnerships and educational offering in one of the world’s most dynamic urban centres.

Established in 2023, the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences brings together diverse disciplines and is distinctive in combining internationally recognised research with strong civic and clinical partnerships. As a member of the University Executive Board, the PVC will provide visible academic leadership for the Faculty, working closely with the President & Vice‑Chancellor and fellow Faculty PVCs and reporting to the DVC and Provost to advance the University’s strategy and ambitions.

The Pro Vice‑Chancellor will deliver the Faculty’s strategic priorities, ensuring excellence across research, education and external engagement. Accountable for overall Faculty performance, the role includes leadership of the Dean and Faculty Associate Pro Vice‑Chancellors, stewardship of significant financial resources, and alignment of academic planning with institutional priorities. The postholder will play a key role in strengthening the Faculty’s national and international reputation, deepening engagement with major partners including the NHS, research funders and regional stakeholders, and articulating the distinctive contribution of Health and Life Sciences within the wider University.

The successful candidate will be effective in building trusted relationships internally and externally, including with clinical, civic and governmental partners, and will be committed to fostering a high‑performing academic community aligned with Bristol’s values.

This is an exceptional opportunity to lead a Faculty in strong health, building on a period of successful consolidation and contributing to one of the UK’s leading research‑intensive universities at a pivotal moment in its development.
