Pro Vice-Chancellor (Learning & Teaching)
About the role
As Pro Vice-Chancellor (Learning & Teaching), you will lead a large and highly capable division and work collaboratively across the University to elevate teaching quality, curriculum innovation and student success.
Operating through influence and partnership, you will work closely with the Provost, Deans and academic leaders to deliver transformational change across learning, teaching and assessment. A strong focus of the role is advancing AI-enabled learning and teaching, ensuring responsible, innovative and future-ready approaches are embedded across the curriculum.
You will also provide leadership in:
- Institutional learning and teaching strategy and performance
- Curriculum design, reform and portfolio innovation
- Teaching capability and academic development
- Digital learning environments and online growth
- Quality assurance, regulatory compliance and governance
- External engagement and sector leadership
Key responsibilities
- Lead the University's approach to learning and teaching, relevant frameworks and standards
- Drive improvement in key student outcomes including satisfaction, retention and graduate success
- Oversee curriculum architecture, course design and portfolio development across award and non-award offerings
- Lead the adoption of AI in learning and teaching, ensuring ethical, compliant and effective use
- Ensure compliance with TEQSA, Higher Education Standards Framework and regulatory requirements
- Build strong, productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Represent La Trobe in sector forums, regulatory engagement and national networks
- Lead and develop a high-performing division, fostering an inclusive and collaborative culture
About you
You are an accomplished academic leader with a strong track record of delivering large-scale transformation in higher education learning and teaching.
You will bring:
- A doctoral qualification and recognised scholarly standing in learning and teaching
- Senior leadership experience in complex university environments
- Demonstrated success influencing across organisational boundaries and leading through partnership
- Deep expertise in curriculum design, pedagogy, digital learning and emerging AI applications
- Strong knowledge of regulatory frameworks including TEQSA and the Higher Education Standards Framework
- Exceptional stakeholder engagement and communication capability
- A commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion in education and leadership
