Description of the Workplace
The Department of Physics at Lund University runs the world-class Lund Nano Lab (LNL), a semiconductor nanofabrication facility and part of Myfab – the national infrastructure for micro- and nano-fabrication. LNL is a key infrastructure for Nanolund, the Center for Nanoscience at Lund University, renowned for materials science and nanostructured semiconductor applications.
- Annual turnover: ~45 MSEK
- Laboratory area: ~1200 m², including 600 m² of semiconductor cleanroom
- Tools: ~80 tools for deposition, growth, etch, patterning, and specialized characterization instruments
- Users: ~140 active users from academia and industry
- Staff: 11 scientists, engineers, and technicians, including Ph.Ds, focused on equipment availability, user support, and lab operations
Role Overview:
Lund Nano Lab seeks one or two Process Engineers with emphasis on lithography and general fabrication. Responsibilities include process, equipment, and material improvement projects, in collaboration with other engineers and OEMs. The role involves interfacing with students, scientists, and engineers to provide training and support on select processes and equipment.
A new cleanroom at Science Village in Lund is planned, doubling current capacity—making this an exciting time to join LNL.

Work Duties
The position includes responsibility for:
- Equipment Management: Install, maintain, and troubleshoot complex processing and characterization equipment, focusing on MOVPE systems and supporting infrastructure
- Preventive Maintenance: Routine maintenance and calibration per manufacturer specifications; manage inventory of critical spare parts
- Uptime Improvements: Develop preventive maintenance strategies with team members
- Diagnostic and Repair: Use diagnostic tools and collaborate with OEMs for technical support and repair of electrical and mechanical issues
- New Equipment Integration: Assist in procurement, installation, commissioning, start-up, and acceptance testing
- User Support: Provide training, qualification, and support to infrastructure users
Qualifications
Required:
- Degree in mechanical or electrical engineering, or equivalent
- Several years of hands-on experience maintaining semiconductor processing equipment
- Practical experience with gas distribution, gas detection, and vacuum systems
- Ability to diagnose and repair gas distribution and cooling systems
- Knowledge of vacuum principles, components, pumps, gauges, and valves
- Strong command of English, including technical documentation
- Excellent communication skills
Additional/Advantageous:
- Hands-on cleanroom experience in etching, deposition, material synthesis, growth, characterization, and semiconductor processing
- Knowledge of compressed gases and gas distribution systems, including Mass Flow Controllers (MFCs), valves, and pressure regulators
- Understanding of tubing, threads, and fittings
- Experience with high, ultra-high, and plasma vacuum systems
- Basic electrical troubleshooting of power supplies, control loops, and communication systems
- Operation of electrical and electronic test equipment
