The Department of Psychological Sciences at Tarleton State University, Stephenville, Texas, is seeking a Department Head to start in the Spring 2026 semester to lead a dynamic and growing academic unit. The department offers undergraduate, masters, and doctoral programs across three campus locations and online.

The Department Head provides academic and administrative leadership for the department, managing faculty, staff, and student affairs; budget and resource management; strategic planning; and representing the department to external stakeholders. This role fosters excellence in teaching, research, and service, while promoting the strategic goals of the department, college, and institution. This is a 12-month tenured position located primarily on Tarleton State University’s main campus in Stephenville, Texas. Work hours: Mon-Fri; 8 AM-5 PM or as required. The position requires occasional travel to all campus locations.

It is expected that the Department Head will fulfill teaching and research duties sufficient to hold the rank of a tenured Full Professor. Tenure upon arrival would be granted through approval from the Texas A&M University System Board of Regents.

60% Administration: Includes leadership and strategic planning, budget and resource allocation, academic program development, faculty and staff excellence, and student academic success.

20% Teaching: Plan, prepare, and deliver lectures, seminars, and/or laboratory offerings; assess student performance; incorporate innovative teaching methods.

20% Research, Scholarship, and Creative Activity: Maintain an active research agenda; make original contributions; demonstrate potential for external funding.

Minimum Requirements: Earned doctorate in Psychology; distinguished record in teaching and research for tenured Full Professor rank; excellent communication skills.

Preferred Requirements: Administrative experience; oversight of accredited programs; ability to use data for planning.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of subject matter; communication skills; ability to interact professionally.
