Offer Description
Termez State University invites applications from highly qualified international academics for a Professor / Associate Professor position in Japanese Language and Linguistics.
The position is intended to strengthen teaching and research in Japanese language, linguistics, language education and related fields, expand foreign-language academic programmes, introduce contemporary approaches to language teaching, and promote international academic and research cooperation.
The successful candidate will be expected to:
- teach relevant undergraduate and graduate courses in Japanese and/or English;
- conduct high-quality academic research and publish scholarly work;
- contribute to the development and improvement of curricula, syllabi and teaching materials;
- supervise and mentor students and early-career researchers;
- contribute to international academic and research cooperation;
- participate in the development of research projects and grant proposals;
- contribute to the internationalisation and academic development of Termez State University.
Priority teaching and research areas include:
- Japanese Language;
- Japanese Linguistics;
- Applied Linguistics;
- Japanese Language Teaching Methodology;
- Second Language Acquisition;
- Japanese Grammar and Lexicology;

The specific academic unit and teaching assignment will be determined during the Zoom interview, taking into account the candidate’s academic specialisation, professional experience and the current needs of Termez State University.

Skills/Qualifications
The candidate should hold a PhD, DSc, or an internationally recognised equivalent doctoral degree in Japanese Language, Japanese Linguistics, Applied Linguistics, Language Education, Translation Studies, Japanese Studies, or a closely related field.
The successful candidate should demonstrate strong teaching and research competence in Japanese language and linguistics, experience in university-level teaching, the ability to conduct academic research and publish scholarly work, and the capacity to supervise and mentor students and early-career researchers.
Experience in curriculum development, Japanese language teaching methodology, international academic cooperation, research projects, grant applications, translation, intercultural communication, and modern approaches to language education will be considered an advantage.
Specific Requirements
- PhD, DSc, or equivalent doctoral qualification in Japanese Language, Japanese Linguistics, Applied Linguistics, Language Education, Translation Studies, Japanese Studies, or a closely related field;
- for Associate Professor-level appointments, PhD holders are expected to have at least 3 years of professional experience in higher education and/or research;
- for Professor-level appointments, an academic title of Professor;
- a strong record of academic publications and professional achievements;
- experience in university teaching and/or academic supervision;
- excellent proficiency in Japanese;
- ability to communicate and teach in English;
- ability to contribute to curriculum development, academic cooperation, research projects and the international development of Termez State University.

The salary will be discussed and agreed during the Zoom interview, taking into account the candidate’s academic qualifications, academic title, professional experience, research achievements, and the responsibilities associated with the position.

Eligibility criteria

For Associate Professor-level appointments, PhD holders are expected to have at least 3 years of professional experience in higher education and/or research. For Professor-level appointments, an academic title of Professor is required.
Candidates are expected to have:
- a strong record of academic publications and professional achievements;
- experience in university teaching and/or academic supervision;
- excellent proficiency in Japanese;
- good command of English for academic communication and teaching;
- experience in curriculum development and modern language teaching methodologies;
- the capacity to contribute to research, academic cooperation and the international development of Termez State University.
The position is open to qualified candidates from all countries, and applications will be assessed on academic merit and professional qualifications.
Selection process

The selection process will include:

During the Zoom interview, the parties will discuss and agree on the salary, duration of the employment contract, proposed starting date, specific academic unit and teaching assignment, airfare, medical insurance, accommodation, relocation arrangements and other relevant employment conditions.
The candidate’s academic qualifications, publication record, teaching and research experience, language proficiency, international academic activities, and potential contribution to the development of Termez State University will be considered.
