Description:

Hofstra University invites applications and nominations for a full-time, tenure-track position as Professor/Associate Professor and Program Director for the Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program, beginning Spring 2026. We seek a visionary leader to guide the program in its next phase of academic excellence.

The program director will serve as the academic and administrative leader of the DPT program and will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the program, including curriculum development, labs, classroom space, equipment acquisition, and faculty and staff recruitment and hiring, as well as teaching and scholarly duties. The director is responsible for maintaining CAPTE accreditation and managing all associated reporting, documentation, and communication with the accrediting body. The director will aim for academic excellence within the program by providing leadership, promoting the program, increasing its visibility, assisting with recruiting and retaining students, and managing the daily operations of the program. An additional stipend will be provided for serving as Program Director.

The Program:

The DPT program is designed to meet accreditation standards set by CAPTE. This comprehensive program aims to prepare physical therapists as innovative and competent leaders who provide the highest level of evidence-based quality care for populations and communities across the lifespan. Effective October 31, 2023, Hofstra University, Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) Program has been granted Candidate for Accreditation status by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education.

The Department:

The DPT program is housed in the Department of Allied Health & Kinesiology, which offers an undergraduate pre-professional degree in Exercise Science and four graduate professional programs in Athletic Training (MS), Occupational Health (MS), Physical Therapy (DPT) and Sports Science (MS). Students learn about patient-centered care to enhance health, rehabilitation and performance through the lifespan from accomplished faculty in a collaborative environment and gain hands-on clinical experience both on and off campus.

The School:

The School of Health Sciences is home to four academic departments, including, Allied Health and Kinesiology; Counseling and Mental Health Professions; Population Health, and Speech-Language-Hearing Sciences. The mission of the school to educate students in the theory and practices of their specialized area of study, with a strong foundation in the natural, social, and behavioral sciences. Through competency-based instruction, field experience, and research training, students are educated to become effective and compassionate clinicians, evidence-based practitioners, policymakers, managers, and advocates who promote health equity.

Qualifications:

  • An earned academic doctoral degree from an accredited university (e.g., PhD, EdD, DSC).
  • An active, unencumbered PT license in the US with board certification in PT, and either a NY state license or eligibility for physical therapy licensure in New York state.
  • Qualifications required for appointment to the rank of associate professor or higher.
  • A minimum of 6 years of full-time higher education experience, with a minimum of 3 years of full-time higher education experience as a core faculty member in a CAPTE-accredited entry-level physical therapist education program and familiarity of clinical education and practicum site establishment.
  • Extensive knowledge of and experience with physical therapy accreditation criteria (CAPTE) and state agency regulations.
  • Administrative and/or leadership experience in academic program planning and implementation, personnel management, program assessment, and fiscal management processes.
  • Demonstrated record of excellence in teaching, scholarship, service, and research/scholarship.

Preferred Quals Summary:

Preference will be given to candidates who provide evidence of dynamic and effective communication skills; exceptional writing ability; and a history of successful community partnership building.

$150,000-$160,000 (excluding program director stipend)
