Professor in Art History, Cinema and Audiovisual Media
Vibrant, multidisciplinary and innovative, the Faculty of Arts and Science is one of Université de Montréal’s largest faculties. Through its 28 departments, schools, centres and one institute, it offers over 300 undergraduate and graduate programs, some of which are unique in Quebec. It is also home to some 30 interdisciplinary research centres and groups. The Department of Art History, Cinema and Audiovisual Media offers a variety of practical and theoretical courses that foster a fruitful dialogue between the study and practice of cinema, as well as developing expertise in video games and television studies.
The successful candidate will be expected to develop cross-disciplinary research or research-creation projects in collaboration with neuroscientists, psychologists, healthcare professionals, filmmakers, and others, and to cultivate an area of expertise that is still underrepresented within the department.
Day-to-day responsibilities
Through your undergraduate and graduate-level teaching, and your research activities, you will contribute to the faculty’s pursuit of excellence. Furthermore, you will promote your discipline and actively participate in the daily activities of a renowned institution. As such, you will:
- Develop an innovative, high-level research program in the field related to the position;
- Supervise graduate students;
- Actively participate in the academic life and functioning of the Department of Art History, Cinema and Audiovisual Media, the Faculty of Arts and Sciences and the Université de Montréal through contributions to committees and working groups;
- Contribute to the development of the discipline through conferences, publications and major scientific events.
Qualifications
- Hold a PhD in cinema, audiovisual media or a related field;
- Have an excellent publication record in the field of film and media studies; the record must demonstrate influence among experts in the field;
- Demonstrate the ability to provide high-quality academic teaching and student mentoring;
- Demonstrate the potential to develop internal, national and international collaborations;
- Experience in collaborative research work will be considered an asset;
- Have adequate proficiency of the French language or be committed to learning it once hired, through the Université de Montréal’s French language support program, in accordance with the Université de Montréal language policy.
