Professor in Veterinary Pathology

The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the Université de Montréal is the only French-language institution of its kind in North America. It stands out for the excellence of its research and training on its two campuses—one in Saint-Hyacinthe, at the heart of Quebec’s agri-food region, and the other in Rimouski, within a rich coastal environment. A driver of change, it prepares tomorrow’s leaders through a “One Health” approach that brings together innovation, biodiversity, and sustainability.

The Department of Pathology and Microbiology encourages transdisciplinary collaboration that integrates the “One Health” concept into its teaching and research activities. We also aim to restore, protect, and promote the health of domestic animals, livestock, and wildlife. The department’s professors share a common goal: to provide students, interns and veterinarians with high-quality theoretical, practical, and clinical training across various fields of activity.

Day-to-day responsibilities

Through your undergraduate and graduate-level teaching, and your research activities, you will contribute to the faculty’s pursuit of excellence. Furthermore, you will promote your discipline and actively participate in the daily activities of a renowned institution. As such, you will:

  • Teach undergraduate students enrolled in the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine program, particularly in courses related to pathology and histology, as well as graduate-level courses;
  • Supervise graduate students, including those enrolled in the residency program (DES) in anatomical pathology leading to certification by the American College of Veterinary Pathologists (ACVP) or the European College of Veterinary Pathologists (ECVP);
  • Develop an independent and innovative research program in a relevant field, with technical and scientific support from the Université de Montréal’s Veterinary Diagnostic Center (CDVUM), and in collaboration with the Université du Québec à Rimouski (UQAR) and the Institut des sciences de la mer (ISMER); multidisciplinary collaboration on research projects is strongly encouraged;
  • You may participate in diagnostic activities in animal pathology at the CDVUM (remotely from Rimouski site);
  • Take part in outreach activities related to the discipline (publications, conferences, scientific events, and more);
  • Contribute to the institution’s operations through committee and working group involvement.

Qualifications

  • Hold a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (D.V.M.) degree or equivalent;
  • Hold a Ph.D. in the field of veterinary pathology, or be in the process of obtaining one; or hold a Master’s degree (M.Sc.) or equivalent in veterinary pathology along with certification from the ACVP or ECVP; candidates eligible for certification exams from these colleges will also be considered;
  • Demonstrate the ability to provide high-quality university-level teaching;
  • Show potential to develop internal, national, and international collaborations;
  • Hold or obtain a license to practice from the Ordre des médecins vétérinaires du Québec (OMVQ);
  • Have adequate proficiency of the French language or be committed to learning it once hired, through the Université de Montréal’s French language support program, in accordance with the Université de Montréal language policy.
