Professor of Contemporary Québec History

Vibrant, multidisciplinary and innovative, the Faculty of Arts and Science is one of Université de Montréal’s largest faculties. It is also committed to research that sheds light on the major issues of our day by placing them in the broader sweep of history.

As a professor of Contemporary Québec History, specializing in the history of the State, you will strengthen these areas of expertise in the Faculty of Arts and Science and solidify the Université de Montréal’s commitment to Québec studies.

Day-to-day responsibilitiesThrough your undergraduate and graduate-level teaching, and your research activities, you will contribute to the faculty’s pursuit of excellence. Furthermore, you will promote your discipline and actively participate in the daily activities of a renowned institution. As such, you will:

  • Teach courses pertaining to Québec History offered by the Department of History. These range from large-sized introductory courses to specialized graduate research seminars;
  • Contribute to the theoretical and practical training of future historians by supervising graduate-level research projects;
  • Develop an innovative and high-quality research program in Québec history that will contribute to the national and international reach of the Department;
  • Actively participate in the life of the Department, the Faculty of Arts and Science, and the Université de Montréal through institutional service;
  • Actively contribute to strengthening the Department’s community outreach, as well as the University’s public presence, through conferences, publications and other activities.

Qualifications

  • A PhD in Contemporary Québec History (XXe-XXIe centuries), specializing in the history of the State Candidates close to completing their doctorate are welcome to apply;
  • An excellent publication record;
  • A demonstrated ability to provide high-quality university-level teaching and to supervise students;
  • A demonstrated capacity to develop institutional, national and international research collaborations;
  • Have adequate proficiency of the French language or be committed to learning it once hired, through the Université de Montréal’s French language support program, in accordance with the Université de Montréal language policy.
