About the Role
The Professor of Genomics is a senior academic leadership position responsible for driving internationally competitive research and shaping the strategic direction of genomics within the College of Medicine and Public Health. The role leads high-impact research programs that advance health, biomedical and population research outcomes, while strengthening the University’s global reputation. Working collaboratively with academic, industry and government partners, the position plays a key role in securing major research funding, building multidisciplinary capability, and developing the next generation of researchers.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading and delivering internationally recognised, high-impact genomics research programs and securing significant external funding
- Setting strategic research priorities and expanding the University’s genomics capability and reputation
- Building and sustaining strong collaborations with industry, government, health services and academic partners
- Mentoring and developing higher degree research students, fellows and academic staff to foster a high-performing research culture
About You
You are an internationally recognised genomics researcher and academic leader with a distinguished track record of delivering high-impact research and securing substantial competitive funding. You bring deep expertise in leading large-scale research programs, fostering multidisciplinary collaboration, and translating research outcomes into real-world impact. Passionate about developing future researchers, you are committed to mentoring emerging academics and building a strong, sustainable research culture aligned with institutional priorities.
Your attributes and accomplishments include:
- A PhD in genomics or a closely related discipline, with an outstanding international research reputation and sustained record of high-quality publications and competitive grant success
- The ability to think strategically and identify emerging opportunities that translate into impactful research initiatives
- A collaborative mindset, with a natural ability to build trusted relationships and align diverse stakeholders around shared goals
- A demonstrated commitment to supervising and mentoring higher degree students and early- to mid-career researchers, fostering a high-performing research environment
