Professor of Pediatric Rheumatology
Job Summary
As a professor of pediatric rheumatology at UMC Utrecht, you will lead translational research and education in the department of pediatric rheumatology at Wilhelmina Children’s Hospital (WKZ). You will translate scientific insights into improved diagnostics and treatment methods for conditions like juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) and other rheumatic diseases in children, while continuing to work in patient care.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate international collaborations, including networks like UCAN CAN DU and ERN-RITA, and strengthen relationships with institutions such as the Princess Máxima Center for Pediatric Oncology.
- Contribute to implementing innovative treatment models for patients with complex rheumatic diseases and immunological complications.
- Develop and deliver education programs, teach biomedical students, and mentor students to become scientists and clinicians with a focus on innovative and multidisciplinary approaches.
- Lead efforts to attract external funding for clinical and fundamental research, and build partnerships with governments and foundations.
- Position the department of pediatric rheumatology as a national and international center of expertise and recognized research institute.
Qualifications and Requirements
- You are a promoted pediatric rheumatologist with knowledge and experience in diagnosing and treating pediatric rheumatological conditions, such as JIA and other rheumatic and autoinflammatory diseases.
- You have a proven track record in translational research, with a strong publication list in leading scientific journals, aligning with the UMC Utrecht profile of clinical researcher.
- You effectively translate fundamental immunological insights into clinical applications.
- Your leadership style involves giving and receiving feedback with a development-oriented and results-oriented approach that stimulates collaboration.
- You have demonstrable experience leading clinical and/or scientific teams, and a clear vision for the future of pediatric rheumatology, including formulating and achieving strategic goals.
- You have success in securing research funding nationally and internationally, experience mentoring PhD students, postdocs, and technicians, and hold or are willing to obtain a Basic Qualification in Education (BKO).
- You have experience establishing and maintaining international research collaborations and networks, and focus on developing and implementing personalized treatment strategies and innovative diagnostics through bench-to-bedside and bedside-to-bench trajectories.
What the Employer Offers
The salary for this 40-48 hour per week position is a maximum of €5,087 gross per month based on a full-time employment. Employment conditions follow the Collective Labor Agreement for University Medical Centers (UMC), including an end-of-year bonus of 8.3%, holiday allowance, travel expense reimbursement, and various training opportunities. You will be part of the Children’s Division at WKZ, a national and international expertise center for pediatric medicine.
