Professor of Practice Community Health Nursing
Job Summary/Basic Function
Wheaton College’s nursing program is searching for a Professor of Practice in Community Health Nursing for Fall 2026. We seek candidates who share our commitment and passion for educating the nurse of the future to care for others in a meaningful and practical manner that aligns seamlessly with Wheaton College’s mission and its strategic vision for diverse and inclusive excellence. The Community Health Nursing faculty member is a full-time academic appointment within the nursing program. This faculty member is responsible for teaching didactic and/or clinical courses in community health nursing across the baccalaureate curriculum. The faculty role encompasses teaching, student advising, service, and scholarship consistent with the mission and values of Wheaton College and the Nursing Program.
- Evidencing a commitment to teaching excellence
- Contribute to student learning through academic advising, mentoring, and professional role modeling
- Teach Community Health nursing courses at the undergraduate level, including classroom, clinical, and simulation-based instruction
- Evidencing continued growth as a practicing scholar
- Participating in the governance of the program and college, including work in standing, ad-hoc committees, and task forces
- Serves as a member of departmental committees
- Participating in the development of a written curriculum plan for Nursing
- Participating in the regular development, implementation, and evaluation of academic policies in Nursing
- Participating in the development and implementation of a written systematic evaluation plan of all components of the nursing program
- Teaching the number of courses prescribed in their contract letter
- Evaluating student achievement of nursing competencies
- Providing advising to students in the Nursing program
- Completing an annual evaluation
- Other responsibilities determined by the Office of the Provost and the Dean of Nursing
Minimum Qualifications
- A current MA RN license in good standing
- A minimum of an earned Master’s degree in Nursing
- A minimum of five years of full-time Community Health experience
- Evidence of clinical competence in the area of clinical instruction
- Evidence of ongoing and progressive professional development in academic and professional communities appropriate to teaching responsibilities
Preferred Qualifications
- A doctoral degree in the discipline of Nursing
- Teaching experience in Nursing
- Ongoing scholarly activity that includes research and publication

When determining and establishing hiring rates or recruitment ranges for a position, the College considers a number of factors including the budget for the position, the range of the grade, the external market for the position or similar positions, level and scope of responsibilities, required education, skills and relevant experience as well as internal equity. All salary offers must have the prior approval of the Office of Human Resources.
The salary range for this position is $90,000 – $95,000.
