Expected skills:
Applicants must show a strong interest in teaching as well as a high-level scientific record in accordance with UGA’s ambitions. They must identify with UGA’s values, that is, being open to the world, emphasising ethics and scientific integrity, showing an interest in teamwork and being committed to the community. They should also have a sense of responsibility, in particular with regard to environmental and social issues.
Context and educational objectives:
- The successful candidate will be required to teach courses on professional practices in the performing arts and courses on the relationship between the performing arts and society at both the Grenoble and Valence campuses.
- They will teach general and specialised courses on the performing arts, such as the Bachelor's degree class in ‘Performing Arts & Society’ and ‘Performing Arts & Politics’ (Valence and Grenoble). In the Master's programme in Artistic Creation, which has a specialisation in ‘performing arts’, they must have the skills required to teach seminars such as: ‘Institutional and professional environment of the performing arts’, ‘Organisation of the performing arts’, ‘Investigating stage creation’ and ‘Professional encounters’.
- Finally, they should have a wide-ranging knowledge of the professional theatre environment, which will enable them to develop partnerships with local cultural institutions and support students in their professional integration. They must be prepared to take responsibilities within the Performing Arts Department and the LLASIC Faculty.
Research project and scientific impact:
- The successful candidate will be a specialist in contemporary theatre trends and the professional environment of the performing arts (aesthetic aspects, institutional issues, professional practices, etc.).
- They will be expected to initiate an original multi-year research project based on their work, which will motivate Master's and PhD students to examine how contemporary theatre deals with societal issues. The focus will be on how the professional world can be viewed in all its plurality (institutions, companies, public spaces, etc.) as well as how it interacts with society (in creative practices, mediation practices, relations with audiences, etc.).
- In line with the research areas developed within the Litt&Arts UMR (joint research unit) and the ‘Creation’ Federative Research Structure, the successful candidate will have an interest in studying creative processes and be able to train students and doctoral candidates in the methodologies and tools of the field approach. Various tasks may also be assigned to them within the UMR (coordination of the CNRS-Ministry of Culture agreement, management of a research axis, etc.) or within the Création Federative Research Structure and the Maison de la Création et de l'Innovation platform (coordination of a structural research area or specific equipment).
- Finally, a certain degree of versatility is expected: the successful candidate, who will be the only professor specialist in contemporary theatre at the laboratory, will be required to supervise a wide range of master's theses and doctoral dissertations, and to lead scientific activities related to stage production within UGA (MaCI platforms, SFR Création programmes, social and cultural outreach, international outreach and responses to calls for proposals, etc.).
