Expected skills:
Applicants must show a strong interest in teaching as well as a high-level scientific record in accordance with UGA’s ambitions. They must identify with UGA’s values, that is, being open to the world, emphasising ethics and scientific integrity, showing an interest in teamwork and being committed to the community. They should also have a sense of responsibility, in particular with regard to environmental and social issues.
Context and educational objectives:
- The position aims to strengthen the mathematics teaching team at the Grenoble Faculty of Economics (FEG) located on the Grenoble and Valence campuses. Applied mathematics (probability, statistics, financial mathematics) and general mathematics (algebra, analysis, optimisation) will mainly be taught in the economics and management degree programme. Another part of the teaching may concern the Bachelor's degree in MIASHS. Quantitative courses are also offered within the Master's degree in MIASHS (co-accredited Master's degree in Mathematics and Applications) in the Business Data Analyst programme, some of which are shared with the Statistics and Data Science programme. There is therefore a significant need for teaching at Bachelor's and Master's level on the Grenoble and Valence campuses.
- Courses must be taught in French and English.
- Investment in doctoral programs supported by the GAEL and CREG laboratories is expected. More generally, there is a strong need for investment, leadership and responsibility within the FEG mathematics teaching team (course development, monitoring and teaching innovations, etc.).
Research project and scientific impact:
- The successful candidate will conduct research at the LJK (Laboratoire Jean Kuntzmann), a research laboratory in applied mathematics and computer science, and more specifically within one of the teams of the DATA department. The recruitment of a statistician of international standing is a strategic priority to strengthen collaborations between statistics and the quantitative division of the Faculty of Economics of Grenoble. The successful candidate is also expected to take an active role in the local academic community — for example, through involvement in the LJK, the Grenoble Interdisciplinary Institute of Artificial Intelligence (MIAI), the Persyval-lab Excellence Laboratory, and within the committees and activities of the Faculty or the University.
- The main research themes associated with this position reflect the key challenges currently faced by statistics in the specific field of applied economics: spatial and spatio-temporal statistics; high-dimensional statistics; statistical learning and deep learning; stochastic processes; modeling and analysis of complex, heterogeneous, or network data; conformal inference, post-selection inference and causal analysis.
