Background of the recruitment and description of the project
The rapid development of generative AI is drastically changing information processing. On the other hand, we do not fully understand or control the technology, and investigating reliable AI is a significant subject today. To bring AI to a reliable scientific basis, we need to ask again what the correctness of information and computation is, and to practically implement the fundamental achievements that have been learned and accumulated in computer science. In the Department of Computing and Software Systems, research and education are conducted to develop technologies that improve the convenience, safety, and comfort of an informationalized society. The Software Science and Technology Unit focuses on technologies such as model checking, program semantics, parallel and reversible computation, and an algebraic approach to formal language theory. The research in the unit should answer practical questions about AI-generated program code, play a key role in complementing today's generative AI, and contribute to the reconstruction of our understanding of information and computation in this AI era. We would like to recruit a professor with a solid background in theoretical and fundamental research on information systems, a passion and a plan for applying these results to enhance AI today, and the ability to lead research and education in the field.
Work content and job description
Immediately after hiring:
- 1) To lead research on formal methods for software (formal proof, theory of software, concurrent and reversible computations, mathematical logic, etc.) and its application to AI
- 2) To actively participate in the management of the Graduate School of Informatics and contribute to achieving the mission of the Graduate School.
- 3) To teach and supervise undergraduate and postgraduate students.
