The Department of Aerospace Engineering at the University of Michigan invites applications for multiple full-time tenure-track faculty positions at all ranks. We seek faculty members who commit to excellence in graduate and undergraduate education and who will develop impactful and internationally leading research programs. While we will consider all areas relevant to aerospace engineering, we will give priority for exceptional candidates in the following areas: Advanced computational methods and emerging computing paradigms for aerospace applications. Areas of interest include quantum and quantum-classical hybrid computing for physical systems; neuromorphic and probabilistic computing; resource-efficient onboard computation; novel paradigms of computational science and AI for aerospace systems. Science and technology of operating in and beyond Earth orbit. Areas of interest include orbital mechanics and navigation for cislunar and multi-body regime; space situational / domain awareness; space robotics and autonomy; space operation and logistics; in-space assembly and manufacturing; and space resource utilization and surface systems. Frontiers in aerospace engineering. We seek candidates who define directions beyond the areas above, particularly where new capabilities emerge at the intersection of disciplines such as high-speed flight, sustainable aviation, advanced air mobility, autonomy and advanced manufacturing. Areas of opportunity include experimental methods and diagnostics for extreme environments; novel ground and flight testing, including automated and hardware-in-the-loop approaches; and systems integration, from digital engineering to model-based design to qualification and certification of complex vehicles. More information about our department can be found at https://aero.eng.umich.edu. Successful candidates will teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels, mentor students, and contribute to interdisciplinary efforts linking the department with industry, strategic partnerships with national laboratories, state- and national-level space initiatives, while supporting University-wide initiatives in priority areas.
