The University of Zurich will be appointing a Professor of Education and Teaching for Learners with Special Educational Needs starting on 1 February 2028.

Candidates must have conducted excellent, innovative and internationally recognized theory-based, qualitative and/or quantitative research in educational and teaching processes that support children and adolescents with special needs. They must have relevant experience teaching the subject and a willingness to continuously develop their teaching skills.

The professorship is responsible for teaching inclusive education and special needs support, particularly in the context of schooling from early childhood through the end of compulsory education. Candidates must have successfully completed a PhD in educational science or a closely related field, preferably special or inclusive education, at the time of application and have an outstanding academic publication record. The demonstrable ability to secure competitive third-party funding and managerial and mentoring experience are also essential requirements.

Teaching will be in German and partly in English. The administrative language of the University of Zurich is German. Non-German speaking candidates are expected to acquire a working knowledge of German within the first three years of their appointment.

The Institute of Education, the University of Zurich, and the other higher education institutions in the city of Zurich provide many opportunities to engage in interdisciplinary collaboration and academic dialogue.

The University of Zurich is committed to increasing diversity in research and teaching and therefore encourages applications from qualified women and individuals from underrepresented groups.

Applications must be submitted online by 5 May 2026. Information about and access to the online application system can be found on the website of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences.
