Professorship of Planting Design (salary group W2)

The Bernburg-based Department of Agriculture, Ecotrophology and Landscape Development invites applications for the professorship of Planting Design (salary group W2) which is to be filled at the earliest possible date.

Job Description:

This professorship is responsible for the field of planting design in landscape architecture and environmental planning. The professorship’s profile is characterized by teaching competencies in the areas of conceptual planting design, site- and function-appropriate planting design, and vegetation management.

The position holder (m/f/x) represents the professorship in an application-oriented manner in teaching, continuing education, and research.

Teaching activities focus on the module courses offered in the aforementioned areas of expertise within the bachelor's and master's degree programs, which are taught in both German and English. The professorship requires a high level of commitment to supervising bachelor's and master's theses, student projects and excursions, as well as to the strategic further development of the consecutive degree programs, the expansion and development of career-integrated, continuing-education, and cooperative/dual degree programs. Following a degree at Anhalt University of Applied Sciences includes intensive cooperation with companies as well as research and training partners.

To ensure the highest standards of research, we actively collaborate with national and international universities, research institutions, companies, local authorities, professional associations, as well as other departments at Anhalt University of Applied Sciences. Active participation in the acquisition and implementation of third-party funded projects as well as research and development projects is expected.

Anhalt University of Applied Sciences has the right to award doctorates in research-intensive disciplines. Participation in the Doctoral Center "Life Sciences" is therefore desired.

Active participation in the University’s collaborative academic management structures (akademische Selbstverwaltung) is also one of the responsibilities of the professorship.

Requirement Profile:

We are looking for a personality with a proven track record in the field of appointment and with practical experience in planting design. Expertise in planting and vegetation planning, incorporating ecologically and creatively innovative concepts, is expected. In addition, knowledge in other relevant areas of landscape architecture, such as the greening of buildings or the planning of roadside trees, is desirable.

The applicant (m/f/x) has graduated with an academic degree in the field of appointment.

In teaching, the successful applicant is expected to largely focus on the program-relevant contents in both English and German in bachelor's / master's degree programs employing current approaches. The module courses assigned to the professorship are to be further developed using modern didactic methods and techniques. A special focus is to be placed on digital teaching concepts. Current research findings are to be integrated into the curriculum.

Furthermore, the future position holder should demonstrate expertise in the acquisition and implementation of collaborative and/or externally funded projects with partners from academia and practice, as well as have published on the aforementioned focus areas.

International networking in the field of appointment as well as proficiency in intercultural communication are desirable. A sound knowledge of the German and English languages is required.

Employment requirements:

The formal recruitment requirements are based on Section 35 of the Higher Education Act of the State of Saxony-Anhalt (HSG LSA).

Appointment to a professorship is made for the first time upon fulfillment of the prerequisites for a probationary civil servant position. If the prerequisites are not met, a temporary employment relationship under private law can be established.

If the candidate proves successful during the probationary period, the appointment will be converted into a civil servant position for life or the employment relationship under private law will be made permanent.
