This is a position with a binding tenure track commitment in accordance with Section 55 of the Rhineland-Palatinate Higher Education Act.

The position will initially be filled as a W 1 position as a temporary civil servant for six years. In addition to an interim evaluation for orientation purposes, a tenure evaluation will be carried out at the end of the term on the basis of clearly defined and transparent criteria. These criteria are defined together with the future position holder at the time of appointment. After successful completion of the tenure evaluation, the appointment is made as a civil servant for life in grade W 2, provided that the general requirements under civil service law are met. The procedure is regulated in the statutes on quality assurance for appointments at RPTU.

Your tasks include:

The position holder should represent the field of in research and teaching.

The successful candidate is expected to strengthen and complement the existing research activities of the Department of Physics in the field of biophysics. The research profile should be closely aligned with, and add to, current departmental strengths. A strong commitment to participating in coordinated research initiatives and to interdisciplinary collaboration particularly with research groups in Biology and Chemistry is required.

Teaching duties include courses in the Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programs in biophysics. Instruction is conducted in both German and English. International applicants are expected to acquire adequate proficiency in German within a reasonable timeframe.

The position also involves participation in distance-learning programs in medical physics. Applicants should demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching, including proven teaching experience, pedagogical skills, and a willingness to engage in further professional development in higher education teaching. Active participation in academic self-governance is expected in line with the responsibilities of a junior professorship.

Your profile:

Candidates must hold a university degree in a natural science discipline and a doctoral degree (PhD), typically obtained no more than six years prior to the application date. A strong publication record in international peer-reviewed journals and a proven success to attract third-party funding are required.

The state of Rhineland-Palatinate and RPTU advocate a supervision concept in which a high level of presence of teaching staff at the university location is expected. In addition to the general employment requirements, the employment requirements set out in Section 54 of the Rhineland-Palatinate Higher Education Act apply.
