The University of Wuppertal invites applications for a professorship in German language teacher education with a focus on primary school education. The position will be based in the School of Humanities. We are looking for an outstanding personality who will continuously develop this area in research and teaching.
DUTIES AND REQUIREMENTS
- The applicant will work in the field of German language education with a focus on primary schools, in which they have proven qualifications and made substantial contributions both to research and teaching.
- In accordance with the school’s strategic planning, the professorship's research focus should be on acquisition of written language/literacy, text production, grammar or oral communication skills.
- Applicants should have experience in acquiring and carrying out research projects. The future holder of the position will be responsible for the German Studies sub-programme ‘Basic Language Education’ (Sprachliche Grundbildung) in the Bachelor of Arts degree programme for primary school teaching and will participate in its further development at the Aachen location.
- In teaching, applicants offer an attractive range of courses for the language education and linguistics components of the degree programme. They are open to the acquisition and use of modern teaching methods.
- An interdisciplinary orientation and the willingness to collaborate in the interdisciplinary centres of the University of Wuppertal, especially in the Interdisciplinary Centre for Language Teaching and Learning (IZSLL), are expected.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Completed university degree (Master of Education, state examination for teaching or comparable) in German Studies
- Special aptitude for academic work, usually demonstrated by the quality of a doctorate, a topic relevant to the advertised position is desirable
- Further relevant scientific achievements performed during a first professorship include junior professorships, habilitations, employment as a research assistant at a university or at a non-university research institution and scientific positions in business, in administration or another social field in Germany or abroad
- Pedagogical aptitude, which is proven by appropriate previous experience or, exceptionally, demonstrated in the appointment procedure
You are able to demonstrate your qualification for the position by publications, relevant teaching experience, international orientation (e.g., international collaborations, activities in national and international bodies), the successful acquisition of third-party funds, project / practical experience, etc. Please enclose relevant certificates and supporting documents with your application.
