The University of Wuppertal invites applications for a professorship in Mathematics in the area of port-Hamiltonian systems. The position will be based in the School of Mathematics and Natural Science. We are looking for an outstanding personality who will continuously develop this area in research and teaching.
DUTIES AND REQUIREMENTS
- Relevant research in the field of port-Hamiltonian systems; particularly desirable is a focus on port-Hamiltonian differential algebraic equations, predictive control and operator theory methods
- Clear links to other research areas within the department of Mathematics and Computer Science
- Teaching in the degree programmes in Mathematics including the module ‘Control Theory’ in the Mathematics and Techno-Mathematics Master’s programmes. Additionally, we expect the successful candidate to participate in other courses offered by the department including teachers’ training in mathematics and mathematics as a service for other disciplines
- Participation in the interdisciplinary centre ‘Port-Hamiltonian Institute’
- Participation in the application for a renewal proposal for the Collaborative Research Centre 1701 Port-Hamiltonian Systems
- Participation in academic self-administration is considered a matter of course.

QUALIFICATIONS
- Completed degree (master or equivalent from university or university of applied sciences) in Mathematics
- Special aptitude for academic work, usually demonstrated by the quality of a doctorate in mathematics
- Further relevant scientific achievements performed during a first professorship include junior professorships, habilitations, employment as a research assistant at a university or at a non-university research institution and scientific positions in business, in administration or another social field in Germany or abroad.
- Pedagogical aptitude, which is proven by appropriate previous experience or, exceptionally, demonstrated in the appointment procedure
- Experience in acquiring third-party funding in coordinated programmes
You are able to demonstrate your qualification for the position by international, peer-reviewed publications, relevant teaching experience, international orientation (e.g., international collaborations, activities in national and international bodies), the successful acquisition of third-party funds, project / practical experience, etc. Please enclose relevant certificates and supporting documents with your application.
